The funs of water sports will not be dissapointed in Hersonissos as it disposes of two major water sports centers,one a little before Lichnostatis museum on the beach side and another about 4 km away,near the Golf Club/direction Lassithi plateau.Go-carts, parachute,sea ski,bungee jumping, football, scuba-diving and all kind of water-sports can be practiced in the vast areas of these centers which attract every day thousands of sea and water sports enthousiasts.
There are two stables in Hersonissos and one in Potamies (10 km away) which offer riding lessons and organize trips and promenades in the surroundings.Some of them include small farms with birds and animals.
The vast valley of hersonissos together with the mountainsides of north Dikti mount (2.148m) offer plenty of walking possibilities into the unique cretan landscape. If you prefer to stay near the sea during the hot cretan summer, just take a walk across Hersonissos extended sea front, at the long beach of Anisaras in the western end of the town, or walk across the beatiful and unspoiled sea fronts of Sissi and Milatos villages.Another easy walk starts for Hersonissos,passes Koutouloufari and Piskopiano settlements and finishes in Old Hersonissos traditional village.Excellent places for walking can also be found near the settlements of Potamies,Avdou,Gonies and Kera in the way to Lassithi plateau. It is advised when you follow these routes to start early in the morning, equipped with plenty of water,light clothes ,hat and sun cream.
From the port of Hersonissos depart, in a daily base, small boats to Sissi picturesque village, Dia island and other interesting maritime sites.During those short cruises customers have the possibility to swimm in remote beaches, to watch sea life through a glass bottom, fish or just have fun and relax.
You can rent an off-road vehicle or a mountain bike and depart for an adventure in the mainland and southern Crete or just take part in an organized "jeep safari", which will drive you in some remote unspoiled natural sites near the sea or in the mountains of eastern Crete. Some easier, yet beautiful itineraries for bikes, are across the long beaches of Kokini Hani, Gouves, Anisaras, Sissi and Milatos.
